Karpowership, Petrobras to develop LNG, power solutions

Turkish Karpowership, a provider of floating power solutions, on May 7 announced the signing of a memorandum of intent (MoI) with Petrobras, the state energy company of Brazil, to collaborate on the development of LNG and power solutions.

Under the terms of the MoI, Karpowership and Petrobras will explore opportunities in various sectors, including LNG liquefaction for both floating and onshore applications, natural gas and LNG storage, and regasification.

Karpowership has established itself as a major player in LNG-to-power projects, particularly in Brazil, where it currently operates four floating power plants, known as powerships, with a combined capacity of 560 MW. Additionally, the company has undertaken two solar energy generation projects in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

"This agreement with Petrobras reinforces our long-term commitment to Brazil, our investment hub in South America. It will be an opportunity for us to work together on new business strategies with one of the world's largest energy companies, and potentially expand our offerings to Brazilian society and the Americas", said Beyza Ozdemir, regional director of commercial operations for South America at Karpowership.

Karpowership also plans to pursue new investments in renewable projects and green technology initiatives in the coming years.

With a global installed capacity of up to 7 GW across its signature powerships and onshore plants, as well as a fleet of floating LNG infrastructure including LNG carriers and floating storage regasification units, Karpowership is operates in four continents.
