Subsea7 secures contract for Sakarya gas field development

Subsea7, a global player in offshore engineering, construction, and services, on May 10 announced the award of a "large contract" by Turkish Petroleum Offshore Technology Center (TP-OTC) for the Sakarya gas field development in the Black Sea, offshore Turkey. Subsea7 defines a large contract as being between $300mn and $500mn.

The initial contract for the second development phase (2a) of the Sakarya gas field was awarded in May 2023 to a consortium comprising SLB, Subsea Integration Alliance (a collaboration between OneSubsea and Subsea7), and Saipem. Building on this, the latest award expands the existing contract with Subsea Integration Alliance to include the installation of Turkey's first floating production unit (FPU) as part of Phase 2a development.

Subsea7's scope of work encompasses the installation and integration of risers, umbilicals, hook-ups, and mooring systems with the FPU. Project management and engineering will be conducted through the Subsea7 office in Istanbul.

The Sakarya gas field, estimated to contain 405bn m3 in reserves, holds significant potential to deliver low-cost gas for domestic power generation, thereby reducing the country's reliance on imports and enhancing energy security.
