JAX LNG, Seaside LNG conduct inaugural LNG bunkering in Port of Savannah

JAX LNG and Seaside LNG last month conducted the inaugural LNG bunkering in the Port of Savannah in Georgia for the CMA CGM SYMI during the vessel’s call at the Garden City Terminal, SEA LNG revealed on May 22.

The CMA CGM SYMI, a 15,000-TEU container ship, received approximately 4,600 m3 of LNG from the LNG articulated tug and barge (ATB), the Clean Canaveral, during simultaneous operations (SIMOPS).

This bunkering event also signifies Seaside LNG’s debut bunkering of a dual-fuel container ship equipped with membrane-type LNG tank technology.

JAX LNG, a collaboration between Seaside LNG and Pivotal LNG (a subsidiary of BHE GT&S), operates a LNG plant with a capacity of 360,000 gallons per day and storage of 4 million gallons. Situated in Jacksonville, the LNG facility was established in 2018 to facilitate LNG distribution across the southeast US and Puerto Rico. It has access to two Jones Act LNG bunker barges, the Clean Canaveral and Clean Everglades

Seaside LNG, which became a member of the SEA-LNG association last year, has integrated shoreside liquefaction, LNG storage, and bunkering capabilities in North America. It boasts the largest fleet of Jones Act-compliant LNG barges in the region.

The SEA-LNG association is a global non-profit organisation dedicated to advocating for the use of LNG as a marine fuel. With over 100 members, including energy companies, shipbuilders, engine manufacturers, and port operators, the association actively promotes LNG as a sustainable solution for maritime transportation.
