AET delivers LNG dual-fuel VLCC to Shell

Singapore-based AET, a subsidiary of Malaysian logistics company MISC, has successfully delivered its newest vessel, a very large crude carrier (VLCC) equipped with dual-fuel LNG engines, to Shell Tankers (Singapore) Private on a long-term charter basis, it announced on August 28.

The vessel, named Eagle Vellore, is the first of three crude tankers slated for delivery by AET under an agreement established in March 2021.

Eagle Vellore, with a carrying capacity of 300,000 deadweight tons (dwt), was christened at a ceremony held at the MMHE Pasir Gudang yard. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the deputy minister of transport for Malaysia and other government officials from Malaysia.

The remaining two sister vessels are currently being constructed by Hanwha Ocean (formerly known as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) in Geoje, South Korea. These vessels are expected to be completed later in the year and will also be delivered to Shell Tankers (Singapore) Private on a long-term charter basis.

Classified by Lloyd's Register, all three ships are designed with optimised hull forms and propellers, as well as wake improvement ducts and rudder bulbs, all aimed at enhancing energy efficiency. They are compliant with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) 2025 Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEDI) Phase III requirements.

Additionally, the vessels boast impressive environmental credentials, including a 99% reduction in sulfur oxides, an 85% reduction in nitrogen oxides, and a 95% reduction in particulate matter emissions, as specified by AET.
