Air Products to Provide Tech for Qatari LNG Expansion

The US' Air Products has been selected to provide its proprietary AP-X gas liquefaction technology and equipment for the first phase of Qatar Petroleum (QP)'s expansion plans at the North Field LNG production hub, it said on August 4.

Air Products' liquefaction process will be used at each of the four new 7.8mn mt/yr LNG production trains QP intends to build under the North Field East project, due to lift Qatar's liquefaction capacity to 110mn mt/yr by 2025.

Air Products also provided key equipment and technology for all 14 of Qatar's existing LNG trains, commissioned between 1996 and 2011.

"The truest sign of a satisfied customer is one that comes back and places another order, and Air Products is both pleased and proud that our premier technology was selected again for the newest phase of this massive LNG expansion project in Qatar," Air Products' chief operating officer Samir Serhan said in a statement.

The AP-X process enables increased LNG production without requiring individual equipment items to be larger, and provides both efficient and flexible operation, Air Products said. The company will build the AP-X LNG heat exchangers at its plant in Florida, which finished a 60% expansion last year.

The second phase of North Field's expansion, known as North Field South, will increase Qatar's liquefaction capacity further to 126mn mt/yr by the late 2020s.
