Aker BP Permitted To Drill Wildcat Off Norway

Aker BP has secured a permit to drill a wildcat at production licence 986 in the Norwegian North Sea, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) reported on August 5.

The well will be drilled by the Deepsea Stavanger semi-submersible some 10 km southeast of the Gyda gas field, the NPD said.

Aker BP operates licence 986 with a 30% stake, while its partners are Norwegian players Petoro (30%), Wellesley Petroleum (20%) and DNO (20%). This will be the first well at the licence, which was awarded in March this year.

Aker BP also got a greenlight from authorities earlier this month to sink a wildcat off Norway at licence 019C, awarded in September 1998.
