Aker BP Reports Second Dry Well off Norway
A wildcat drilled by Aker BP in the Norwegian North Sea has failed to find any hydrocarbons, marking the company's second drilling disappointment in a matter of weeks.
The well, drilled at production licence 986 by the Deepsea Stavanger, was aimed at proving petroleum in Middle Jurassic rock. It came up dry, however, and has been plugged and abandoned, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) said on September 4.
Aker BP had been hoping to find new resources that could be developed as part of its North Alvheim-Krafla-Askja (Noaka) project. The Anglo-Norwegian player also completed a duster at the production licence 762 in the Norwegian Sea in late August.
