All Phases of South Pars Gas Field to be Fully Complete by 2017

All phases of Iran’s South Pars natural gas field will be completed by early 2017, according to an Iranian energy official.

Managing Director of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Rokneddin Javadi told reporters on Friday that by the Iranian calendar year 1396 (starting March 21, 2017), all phases of South Pars will be completed 100 percent, reports Press TV.

Last month, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said the production capacity of South Pars gas field would increase by 100 million cubic meters per day during the current Persian calendar year (started March 21, 2014).

He added that the majority of the units related to the prioritised phases of South Pars, including phases 12, 15, 16, 17 and 18, would start production this year, adds Press TV.

South Pars covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.
