Ameresco to develop landfill gas-to-RNG plant in Utah

Cleantech company Ameresco has been selected by the Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District (WIWMD) to design, build, own, and operate a landfill gas-to-renewable natural gas (RNG) plant at the Davis Landfill in Layton, Utah, the company announced on August 14.

This project marks Ameresco’s second landfill gas beneficial use arrangement with the district, reflecting a two-decade-long commitment by both organizations to sustainable waste management solutions.

The Davis RNG facility will capture naturally occurring landfill gas, primarily composed of methane, generated from the decomposition of organic waste. This gas will be transformed into a renewable energy resource. The green energy produced by the plant is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 953mn pounds/year.

As the owner of the complex processing facility, Ameresco will be responsible for all aspects of the project, including design, engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations. Once completed, the Davis RNG facility is expected to replace the use of over 8mn Btu/year of fossil fuels, such as coal and natural gas.
