Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Diplomacy Amos Hochstein met on Wednesday to discuss on the possibilities for diversification of sources and routes as guarantee for energy independence, the press service of the government announced.

The main subjects that were being discussed during the meeting were the construction progress of the interconnectors with neighbouring counties and the Southern Gas Corridor project.

“Bulgaria has the commitment to build the interconnectors and especially the gas connector with Greece. The biggest progress is reported in the construction of the pipeline with Romania. Funding for the feasibility studies of the interconnector with Turkey has been provided. We received assurance for speeding up activities for the construction of the interconnector with Serbia despite the delay,” the Prime Minister said. He commented that the construction of the Southern Gas Corridor will guarantee energy security in Europe through diversification of sources and routes for energy resources supply, which is part of the European Energy Union project.
