Anadarko Eyes Natural Gas in New Zealand
Anadarko Petroleum Corp is planning to explore for natural gas in the Taranaki Basin of New Zealand.
Jeff Oslund, Anadarko's Asian Pacific Director, said the company has exploration permits in waters off Taranaki as well as in the Canterbury Basin. The company is expected to start its first drilling off the Taranaki coast this summer.
"Regardless of where we operate, protecting the environment is our top priority and we recognize that safety must never be compromised," Oslund said. "Great care is involved in local stakeholders and understanding environmental and cultural considerations before we begin any activity," he added.
According to Oslund, ramping up New Zealand future natural gas and oil potential were not just about Anadarko Petroleum. "It's about the benefits energy development can bring to host countries like New Zealand the regions of Taranaki, Canterbury and Otago," Oslund noted.
