Andhra Pradesh Shortlists Ports for LNG Terminal
India’s Andhra Pradesh government has short-listed Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram and Kakinada ports for setting up the first-ever Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal on the east coast.
The state government and GAIL will jointly develop the terminal.
Petronet was initially considered but the government preferred the state’s participation as well as control over the imported gas and distribution project.
Kakinada would be the ideal location, because of its proximity to the originating point of the central gas distribution network criss-crossing the country, presently carrying Reliance gas.
Once the government zeroes in on the location, it will invite international bids for the technical partner for the Floating, Storage, Regas and Unloading.
