Argentina, Algeria Talk Energy Co-operation

Argentina’s foreign minister Susana Malcorra met Algeria’s energy minister Noureddine Boutarfa on a visit February 26.

According to Algerian state news agency APS, the two discussed bilateral relations and possible investments in the energy sector. They also affirmed the willingness of both countries to “reinforce bilateral co-operation and transfer of know-how, particularly in training and research”.

Malcorra earlier met Algerian prime minister Abdelmalek Sellal.

Argentina has the largest shale gas resources outside North America and China, whereas Algerian attempts to develop shale in the Sahara in recent years met with widespread local protests over the perceived risks of pollution to scarce water resources.
