Argentina Seeks Investors in US Road Show
Argentina’s new energy secretariat Gustavo Lopetegui opened a multi-city US road show in Houston March 11 to show potential investors some $30bn of opportunities in the country’s unconventional oil and gas sector.
An estimated 120 executives from companies such as ExxonMobil, Chevron, French Total, Anglo-Dutch Shell and BP attended the first presentation, hosted ahead of Cera Week by Argentina’s oil and gas institute (IAPG). The road show will next visit Washington, DC.
Lopetegui told the gathering that 2018 had been a difficult year for Argentina, the country was establishing a foundation for sustainable growth. Vaca Muerta shale gas production was 215% higher in January 2019 than a year earlier, he said, noting that those successes are “only the tip of the iceberg” with only 4% of the Vaca Muerta surface area exploited so far.
