Arrow will not Scrap CSG Project Despite Protests

Arrow Energy has no plans to scrap its coal seam gas exploration project near Beaudesert, south of Brisbane, despite on-going demonstrations against the project, ABC News said.

Arrow's vice-president for exploration, Tony Knight, says the company remains committed to exploration in the region.

"It's a coal basin. There's been coal mining in the region in the Ipswich area for many, many years. That coal contains gas and there's a large market in proximity in south-east Queensland," he said.

Knight said Arrow wants to hold talks with protestors.

"Safety is always our first concern in everything that we do but really we just think that a good and proper discussion would be best facilitated at a location such as Beaudesert where we can, for example, display information, explain the mechanics of ground water to these people," he said.

The company has two exploration drills in the area and the work on them is expected to finish next month.
