Ashikaga City, Ashikaga Gas, Inpex team up for zero-carbon city transformation

Ashikaga City in Tochigi Prefecture, along with Ashikaga Gas Co. and Inpex, announced a cooperation agreement on March 15 to drive decarbonisation projects aimed at transforming Ashikaga City into a zero-carbon municipality.

Ashikaga Gas Co., a city gas company founded in 1911, supplies city gas, propane gas, and electricity. It aims for a carbon-neutral society by 2050. Their strategy involves promoting energy efficiency measures, fostering local energy production and consumption, and spearheading low-carbon and decarbonisation initiatives.

Inpex, a global energy company, pledges to work closely with city gas utilities to provide innovative solutions for decarbonisation at the local government level. In addition to the collaboration with Ashikaga Gas Co., Inpex has recently entered into agreements with various Japanese cities and city gas companies to advance decarbonisation initiatives.

In November last year, Inpex signed an agreement with gas utility Isesaki Gas Co. to drive decarbonisation efforts in Isesaki City. In July 2022, Inpex embarked on a partnership with Ome Gas to develop decarbonisation initiatives in Ome City.
