Australian Duo Confirm Major Gas Find
Australian junior Strike Energy’s recent West Erregulla gas discovery in the Perth basin as one of the largest ever conventional gas fields ever discovered onshore Australia, the company said on November 11.
Following flow tests at the West Erregulla-2 well last month, Strike now estimates the field’s 2C contingent gas resources at 1.185 trillion ft3, it said in a press release.
The size of resources confirmed at the well “is indicated of a large contiguous structure,” the company said.
“With additional resources expected to be added from the Wagina sandstone, West Erregulla is very likely to be a generational asset capable of producing some of the lowest cost gas in Australia,” it said.
Strike is partnered at West Erregulla with Sydney-based Warrego Energy in a 50:50 equity split. The pair are preparing an appraisal drilling campaign due to take place in the second half of 2020, and are targeting first gas in 2022.
“We are very pleased to see these initial estimates following what has been a very successful 2019 programme,” Warrego CEO Dennis Donald commented. “While its obviously early days and we will continue to review what is an extensive data set, it represents a very good first step in what is becoming Australia’s next gas frontier.”
