Australian east coast LNG exports decline in July

Australia’s LNG exports from the east coast amounted to 1.7mn tonnes in July, marking a 5.5% decrease compared with the same period last year, according to data released by Gladstone Port Corporation on August 6.

China was the largest importer, receiving 979,270 tonnes of Australian LNG last month, down from 1.09mn tonnes in the previous year. In contrast, South Korea imported 361,808 tonnes, a significant increase from 234,879 tonnes last year. Malaysia imported 184,525 tonnes versus 210,470 tonnes last year.

The three key projects contributing to these LNG exports are Origin-operated Australia Pacific LNG, Santos's Gladstone LNG, and Shell's Queensland Curtis LNG.

In 2023, the three projects exported a total of 22.9mn tonnes of LNG, an increase of 1.14% year-on-year.
