Australian LNG Exports in Feb Down 10% on Month

Australia exported 6mn metric tons of LNG in February, down 10.5% month/month, energy consultancy EnergyQuest said on March 15. February shipments were 78.3mn mt/yr on an annualised basis.

The three projects on Australia’s east coast projects shipped 1.95mn mt in February, down from 2.07mn mt in January. The east coast projects operated at 98% of nameplate capacity during February, EnergyQuest said.

There was an increase in cargo delays during February. EnergyQuest estimates nine Australian cargoes have been delayed for more than three days awaiting final destination orders during February after two cargoes were delayed in January and nine in December.

Deliveries to north Asian markets were significantly lower in February compared with January. This reflects the fall in shipments in January owing to disruptions at Gorgon, Wheatstone and Ichthys, and the shorter month, EnergyQuest said.

Australian projects delivered a total of 83 cargoes to China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan in February, down from 94 cargoes a month earlier.
