Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov considers that the Ivano-Frankivsk regional council blocked a decision on shale gas production for far-fetched reasons. 

 

"Ivano-Frankivsk regional council blocked the implementation of important projects for the state for absolutely ridiculous reasons. Does that increases the independence or not? Obviously not. Production of own gas is a direct path to energy independence of Ukraine. This is our national interests," Azarov said, opening the Cabinet’s meeting, ForUm correspondent reports.

 

According to him, Ivano-Frankivsk regional council, solving internal political disputes, harms the whole state.

 

In turn, energy and coal industry minister of Ukraine Eduard Stavytsky told a briefing that he hopes to reach a compromise with the Ivano-Frankivsk regional council.  MORE
