Azeri Firm Pre-selected for Pakistan Tender

Azeri state-run Socar Trading has been qualified and preselected for supplying potentially six LNG cargoes to Pakistan from November 12 to December 27, the company told NGW.

Socar will be competing against Trafigura, Vitol, Gunvor Singapore, BB Energy, DXT Commodities, Jera JM, PetroChina and Eni, based on documents released by Pakistan LNG company, the issuer of tenders.

Socar said that it also won a tender to deliver a Qatari LNG cargo to Pakistan for the first time in October 2018. It hopes to win this year too. Its price for December 21-22 delivery is the lowest of the competitors, standing at 10.828% of the cost of Dated Brent crude. Pakistan plans to import ten cargoes between October 1 and December 31.

The official documents do not reveal the volumes, but Pakistan imported 9.4bn m3 LNG in 2018, about 54% more than 2017, according to BP’s 2019 Statistical Review of World Energy.
