Bahrain to Drill Deeper For Gas

Bahrain's Energy Minister Abd Al Hussein Mirza says that the country should drill deeper to extract natural gas.

The Bahraini government expects drilling under a new gas exploration deal with US based Occidental Petroleum to commence soon, but is considering importing gas from Turkmenistan or Russia in the interim, given the slow progress to supply talks with Iran and Qatar.

According to Mirza, Bahrain signed a framework agreement with Iran in 2008 but negotiations were not completed due to a pricing disagreement. Currently negotiations are frozen.
