Baker Hughes to supply equipment for Aramco's Master Gas System project
Energy technology company Baker Hughes has secured an order from Worley, acting on behalf of Saudi Aramco, to provide gas technology equipment for the third phase of Saudi Arabia's Master Gas System project, the company announced on April 23.
Under the terms of the agreement, Baker Hughes will supply 17 pipeline centrifugal compressors driven by aeroderivative gas turbines for Aramco's project. "The new 4,000-km pipeline is vital to the Kingdom’s energy transition, with expectations to increase domestic gas distribution and contribute to a reduction of carbon emissions and oil consumption," the company said.
This order builds upon Baker Hughes' successful delivery of 18 centrifugal compressors, also driven by aeroderivative gas turbines, for Phases 1 and 2 of the Master Gas System projects previously undertaken by the company.
Baker Hughes is also making strategic investments to bolster its presence in Saudi Arabia. The company is expanding its manufacturing site in Modon, with plans to double its workforce capacity. This upgraded facility will play a role in supporting the timely delivery of projects within the country.
State-backed Saudi Aramco is continuing to build out its gas capabilities. In 2022, the company announced it would bring on stream the $100bn Jafurah onshore unconventional gas project in 2025. In February this year, it announced an increase in reserves at the Jafurah.
