Baltic Countries Move Toward Increased Integration

The Baltic states have moved towards stronger co-operation on Tuesday, with Lithuania’s natural gas supply and trading company LITGAS confirming it will supply first gas to Estonia from February 1, 2015.

“After LNG terminal in Klaipėda has started its operations, we acquired new options to import natural gas from various sources and offer them to customers in other countries for competitive prices. Furthermore Lithuania gained momentum to become a regional hub for natural gas trading,” Dominykas Tučkus, general manager of LITGAS, commented in a note.

LITGAS is the first Lithuanian company to export gas to other Baltic countries. It will ship gas through a gas pipeline via Latvia.

‘LITGAS expects supplying up to 30 million cubic meters of natural gas this year. Company has signed contract with Reola Gaas from Alexela Group, and is in talks with other potential customers in Estonia,’ the company wrote.
