Bangladesh Gas Output Highest Ever
Bangladesh’s overall gas output has recorded highest ever to touch 2,315 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd).
According to Financial Express, major contribution in the increase has come from international oil companies (IOCs).
Gas output by the IOCs accounted for 1,264 mmcfd, while local gas companies produced around 1,050 mmcfd, the newspaper reported.
Of the 20 fields currently producing gas, 15 are state-owned and five are operated by international oil companies.
According to the latest data, the Chevron-operated Bibiyana field has the highest recoverable gas reserve as of January, at 4.486 Tcf, followed by the Titas gas field at 2.829 Tcf.
The state-run Kailastila, Rashidpur, Habiganj and Bakhrabad fields are estimated to hold 2.182 Tcf, 1.923 Tcf, 702 Bcf and 496 Bcf of recoverable reserves, respectively.
Chevron's Jalalabad field has 462 Bcf, the state-owned Chhatak field 447 Bcf and the UK-based Tullow-operated Bangora field 310 Bcf, the Energy Ministry data revealed, among others.
