Bangladesh to Extend LNG MoU With Qatar

Bangladesh will extend its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar to import LNG by another two year, local newspaper The Daily Sun reported Thursday.

Dhaka signed the MoU on January 16, 2011 with Doha for two years, which was extended for another two years till January 16, 2015. The MoU is now expected to be extended by another two years.

A high powered team, led by State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid, will visit Qatar on January 24-26, 2015, the newspaper reported.

The Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) on Wednesday submitted a proposal before the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs again to allow the term sheet agreement for implementing LNG terminal.

The EMRD has sought government approval to allow Astra Oil-Excelerate Energy Consortium (AE), Singapore for setting up LNG terminal on Moheshkhali Island.

The FSRU will have the capacity to handle 138,000 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of LNG. The government will have to pay $1352.4 million in 15 years for the FSRU facility, The Daily Sun said.
