BC utility files environmental application for LNG expansion

BC natural gas and power utility FortisBC said December 2 it had filed an environmental assessment application with provincial regulators for its proposed Tilbury Phase 2 LNG Expansion Project.

The expansion would increase LNG production capacity at the Delta facility to 7,700 tonnes/day and add 142,400 m3 of LNG storage capacity. The new facilities would be located entirely within the footprint of the existing Tilbury LNG plant, which has been producing and storing LNG since 1971.

Capacity of the expanded facility would be about 4.6mn tonnes/year.

The environmental assessment application, filed with the BC Environmental Assessment Office (EAO), now enters a 180-day review period led by the EAO, which includes a 45-day public comment period.

At the end of the review period, FortisBC will have the opportunity to submit a revised application for review, taking into account comments from stakeholders received during the review period.

The EAO is leading the environmental review on behalf of both BC and the federal government under a substitution agreement.
