Belgium-UK Gas Link Cuts Capacity
The Interconnector UK (IUK) pipeline will reduce its capacity available for within day flows from Belgium to the UK to 562 GWh/day to ensure efficiency while booking commitments remain flow, its Belgian operator Fluxys said on November 30.
The change came into effect on December 1, and its benefit has been reflected in a lower commodity charge that will be introduced at the start of the 2020-21 gas year, Fluxys said.
If bookings exceed 30% of this available flow capacity from Belgium to the UK, however, Fluxys said that IUK's full 803 GWh/day of technical capacity would be made available for within day deliveries.
IUK, operated by Fluxys and Italy's Snam, runs from Zeebrugge in Belgium to Bacton in the UK. It can also flow up to 651 GWh/day from the UK to Belgium.
