BHP's gas output up 2% in Jan-Mar

Anglo-Australian multinational BHP's natural gas production during the three months to March 31 (Q3) was 82.6 bn ft3, up 2% year/year, the company said on April 21.

For the nine months to March 31 (9M), gas production totalled 252bn ft3, down 7% yr/yr. BHP said output in 9M declined due to planned shutdowns at Angostura related to the Ruby tie-in, a decrease in tax barrels at Trinidad and Tobago, lower gas sales at the Bass Strait and North West Shelf in the first half of the year, and natural field decline across the portfolio.

The company's combined petroleum production increased 1% yr/yr in Q3 to 25.4mn barrels of oil equivalent. In 9M, combined petroleum production dropped 8% yr/yr, BHP said.

The company said it is planning to drill a second infill well at Shenzi in the Gulf of Mexico in Q4. Last month, BHP successfully completed the drilling of Shenzi North GC608 development well which is within the Wilding discovery and started drilling of the first of two Shenzi infill wells. The company acquired an additional 28% in Shenzi last year.
