Botala, Pure Hydrogen complete Serowe 5 well in Botswana

Botala Energy, formerly BotsGas, has completed the Serowe 5 coalbed methane (CBM) well in Botswana, Sydney-listed Pure Hydrogen said on December 15. This will be the last well for the year within the Serowe CBM project.

Serowe 5 reached a total depth of 510 m with preliminary logging data indicating the well has a total of 24 m of coal. Pure Hydrogen signed a joint operating agreement with Botala for the Serowe project in December last year.

Meanwhile, the preliminary logging data of Serowe 4 indicates 31 m of coal which is about 150% higher than the original estimate, Pure Hydrogen said. Botala will now focus on the planning of two pilot wells in February 2022.

Botala has now designed and is sourcing equipment to complete Serowe 3 as a producer early in 2022. Once set up, the plan is to carry out an extended controlled draw-down test, Pure Hydrogen said. Success at this test can lead to the progressive conversion of 2C resources and contingent resources to reserves, it added.
