“Our long-term LNG agreements are of great importance in ensuring the security of energy supply for both our country and our region, increasing our resource diversity and providing flexibility in our energy supply,” he said.

Botas has secured several LNG agreements in recent months. In May, it inked a deal with US energy giant ExxonMobil to buy 2.5mn tonnes of LNG/year. Earlier this month, the company also signed a 10-year agreement with Shell, under which Shell International Trading Middle East will begin supplying LNG in 2027. Turkey is diversifying its gas resources intending to become a significant regional gas hub.

"This agreement enables us to secure long-term sales and reduce our exposure to spot market gas price fluctuations,” said Gregory Joffroy, senior vice president of LNG at TotalEnergies, in a separate statement.
