Botswana Approves Tlou's Downstream EIS
Australia-listed Tlou Energy has the greenlight from the Botswanian government for its environmental impact statement (EIS) for up to 20 MW coalbed methane (CBM) power project, a 66-kV transmission line to Serowe and a solar farm up to 20 MW, it said May 1.
“We welcome another milestone which further de-risks the Lesedi project. The granting of the downstream EIS is great news for the company as it gives the final environmental authorisation for the initial proposed development of up to 10MW of power generation and allows for a further 10 MW of CBM power generation. This gives the company the option to rapidly expand to 20 MW,” Tlou's managing director Tony Gilby commented.
The EIS addresses the social and environmental context of the area surrounding the planned development of the Lesedi project which includes CBM power generation (up to 20MW), a 66-kV transmission line to Serowe and a solar farm (up to 20 MW), Tlou said. The company already has approval in place for its upstream activities.
Tlou operates the Lesedi project in Botswana, consisting of four coal and CBM prospecting licences (PL) and a mining licence. The latter area is the focal point for operations and includes pilot wells where Tlou had been flaring gas before the start of the drilling programme.
Tlou also has the Mamba project, adjacent to Lesedi, which consists of five coal and CBM PLs, covering about 4,500 km2. Last month, it was awarded a new prospecting CBM licence by the government of Botswana.
