BP appoints Murray Auchincloss as CEO

BP has appointed Murray Auchincloss as the CEO, effective immediately, it said on January 17.

Auchincloss, who has been serving as the interim CEO since September 2023, will continue as a member of the BP board. The company said that the decision follows a competitive search process conducted by the board over the past four months.

“It’s an honour to lead BP – this is a great company with great people. Our strategy – from international oil company to integrated energy company, or IOC to IEC – does not change. I’m convinced about the significant value we can create,” Auchincloss said.

Before stepping into the role of interim CEO, Auchincloss served as BP’s CFO since July 2020, during which he joined the company board. His prior experience includes roles such as CFO, deputy CFO, and head of business development for BP’s upstream segment. From 2010 to 2013, he was the head of BP’s group CEO’s office, working directly with Bob Dudley.

Dudley resigned in September last year for failing to fully disclose details of past personal relationships with colleagues.
