British Gas Chief to Step Down

The managing director of Britain's leading gas utility is to leave his position, according to British media.

The Financial Times reports that Phil Bentley will leave after six years as head of British Gas. His departure comes amid a review of activities at the gas retailer.

Other papers suggested there had been disagreements about the future strategy at British Gas.

Last year British Prime Minister David Cameron declared that utility customers must be offered the cheapest rate available, as part of a crackdown on perceived high prices in the energy sector.

In its latest results statement, Centrica, the parent entity of British Gas, said BG would be “taking the lead in helping to rebuild trust in the energy industry”.
