BSOG installs Romanian gas platform
Black Sea Oil & Gas (BSOG) announced on September 22 it had completed installation of the Ana production platform off the coast in Romania, as part of the Midia gas project.
The platform's topside has now been installed, following the installation of its jacket and a subsea pipeline earlier this year. The platform will deliver gas from five wells targeting the Ana and Doina reservoirs to an onshore gas treatment plant. Hook-up and installation will now be carried out, ahead of the start of drilling in November.

BSOG, owned by private equity firm Carlyle Group, said last year it expected first gas from Midia by the end of 2021, although the company's CEO Mark Beacom warned Reuters earlier this month of potential delays relating to construction of the onshore treatment plant. The $600mn project is expected to recover between 10 and 20bn m3 of gas.
This is the first platform to be added off the coast of Romania in 30 years. Midia is one of several offshore gas discoveries that Romania is counting on to ramp up its gas supply and phase out coal-fired power generation. Another, Neptun Deep, is led by OMV Petrom and ExxonMobil. But the pair have repeatedly delayed taking a final investment decision and Exxon is looking to divest its stake to state-owned Romgaz.
