Focus: Bulgaria has repeatedly committed to comply with EU legislation for South Stream implementation: Ministry

“Bulgaria is a member of the European Union and has repeatedly committed to comply with the European legal framework for the implementation South Stream gas pipeline project on Bulgarian territory,” reads a communication of the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy to the media.

"We expect a formal notice from the European Commission, which to place the issues on which the EU Commission requires comments and we will keep the deadline for a response. The process of selection of contractor for the design, supply of materials, construction, staff training and commissioning of the Bulgarian section of South Stream pipeline which is hinted at the EC statement followed legal procedures that have their arguments in the Bulgarian and European legal framework. Complete information on these procedures will be provided to the EU Commission," the communication reads further.

“So far Bulgaria has informed timely and detailed the European Commission on any action taken by the government and on the development of South Stream project on Bulgarian territory. At the same time Bulgaria, together with the member states through which territory the pipeline route passes, is active participant in the dialogue between the EU and Russia to resolve the legal deficiencies in the project within the European Union."
