Focus: Bulgaria Deputy PM: South Stream agreements say nothing about Bulgaria’s profit
For a year and a half we have been listening to how much Bulgaria will profit, that we will gain BGN 1 billion from transit fees a year. I did not see anything like that in the documents and there is no transit agreement signed that shows what exactly the country will gain from the South Stream project,” said Ekaterina Zaharieva, interim Deputy Prime Minister of Economic Policy, Minister of Regional Development and Minister of Investment Planning, speaking at a briefing, FOCUS News Agency reporter said.
Zaharieva added that as far as the South Stream gas pipeline project was concerned, the work on the signing of agreements, organisation of tenders and the enforcement of the construction contract had been suspended until the European Commission’s procedure was finalised.
“We keep constant contact with Russia and the European Commission (EC) and we believe that there will be a solution to the issue soon but the project itself and what is happening are the latest proof that we are rushing things – contracts on expenses are being signed, while we do not know what the possible revenues will be,” Zaharieva explained.
