FOCUS: Bulgaria threatened this winter by suspension of gas deliveries: Deputy PM

“Ensuring safe energy is a main task. The energy sector is not only the “circulatory system“ of the Bulgarian economy but is also crucial in respect to the rest of sectors in Bulgaria,“ said Bulgaria’s interim Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy, Minister of Regional Development and Minister of Investment Planning, Ekaterina Zaharieva, speaking at the opening of the Fifth Regional Energy Conference in the capital Sofia, FOCUS News Agency reported.

The event is organised by the Bulgarian Energy and Mining Forum. “I will point to four priorities important for the energy security of the country. In the first place, the good management of the energy sector. The good management of the state companies but also a strategic vision of a long-term policy. This has been missing over the past years. Second comes energy diversification. We established the Energy Board as place for constructive debates on the needed changes in the energy sector,“ the official explained.

“I hope the Energy Board will continue to work and be supported by all the participants in it. The Energy Board is not a panacea and the state institutions should not hide behind it. It has been proved over the years when decisions are made quickly and without discussions with experts, this is not the good way [of doing things]. Bulgaria has done little as regards gas deliveries,“ Zaharieva added.
