Burisma Makes Ukrainian Gas Discovery
US independent Burisma has found a gas field in the Kharkiv region in east Ukraine with possible reserves of 7bn m³, it said August 16. Exploratory drilling in the complex geological conditions on the Veselkova structure at a depth of more than 5,000 metres revealed gas-saturated layers. During the well testing commercial daily flow rates were obtained, it said: more than 200,000 m³ of gas. CEO Taras Burdeinyi said the company wanted to develop a new resource base and increase domestic gas production.
"We are continuing drilling works on wells located at the Vodyanivske, Rakytnyanske and Roganske fields. We have also completed another well at the Hutsulivske field, where we earlier conducted a geological survey and discovered new gas deposits. In June, the company started drilling a well on the Pylypivska area in the Ivano-Frankivsk region and the Niklovystkefield in Lviv region," he said. The latter two are in the far west of the country. Karkhiv is close to the Russian border but not close to Luhansk or Donetsk.
