Cairn India, Partners Find Gas Off India's East Coast

Cairn India and its joint venture partners have discovered natural gas in the Ravva block offshore India’s east coast.

According to estimates, the LO-110 prospect holds 368 billion cubic feet (10 billion cubic metres) of recoverable gas and 16 million barrels of condensate, says Business Line newspaper.

An official associated with the development said if all goes as planned to develop the LO-110, then the first round of gas production is likely to come by 2016-17, add Business Line.

According to the newspaper, Cairn (22.5 per cent) and its partners – Marubeni-owned Ravva Oil (12.5 per cent), Videocon (25 per cent) and ONGC (40 per cent) – will take at least three months to drill the exploration well in the new area.

Earlier this fiscal year, the Ravva Operating Committee approved Cairn India’s proposal to drill one exploratory well and two contingent appraisal wells.
