Canada’s ARC Resources nears net-zero at Sunrise
Canadian Montney producer ARC Resources said in a corporate blog post October 27 it was nearing net zero at its Sunrise natural gas complex in northeast BC.
Located 30 km west of Dawson Creek, ARC’s Sunrise complex was connected to the provincial power grid in 2018, displacing natural gas-generated power from turbines with hydroelectricity. Full electrification of the 280mn ft3/day facility has resulted in the avoidance of about 102,900 metric tons of CO2-equivalent (mtCO2e)/year, ARC said, a reduction of 97% of absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to a conventional facility design.

Designed to emit less than 3,000 mtCO2e/year, Sunrise is one of the lowest GHG-intensive facilities in western Canada, ARC said.
