Central Asia-China Pipeline Has Transported 200bn m3 of Gas
The Central Asia-China natural gas pipeline has transported more than 200bn m³ of gas since it started operating till November 29, CNPC said in a statement.
The pipeline was commissioned in December 2009 and has three routes with combined capacity of 55bn m³. It passes through Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, eventually reaching the Horgos in Xinjiang, China. Natural gas delivered to China from central Asian countries annually accounts for more than 15% of the total consumption of the country.
Highlighting the significance of the pipeline, CNPC said that 200bn m³/yr of natural gas can replace 266mn metric tons/yr of coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 284mn mt/yr.
The Central Asia-China natural gas pipeline is operated by PetroChina International Pipeline Company, a unit of CNPC. The fourth route, Line D, is currently under construction and once completed is projected to deliver 30bn m³/yr of gas.
