Central spuds 2nd well at Range gas project

Sydney-listed Central Petroleum has spudded Range-7, the second well in the three-well Range pilot programme in Queensland, it said on April 22.

The well has a target depth of 694 m below the rotary table and will be completed across the three seams of the Walloon coal measures. The first well in the programme, Range-6, was successfully executed in line with the plan. Total depth was reached at 675 m and the Walloon coal was intercepted over a depth range from 260 m to 610 m, Central said. The well was successfully cased, suspended and prepared for completion.

Once all pilot wells are drilled and completed and the wellhead facilities commissioned, production will start, the company said. The Range gas project is a 50:50 joint venture between Central and Incitec Pivot in ATP 2031, a 77 km2 permit located in the Surat Basin, Queensland.
