CGG Begins Brazil Seismic Survey

French geosciences group CGG said August 29 it has begun work on Espirito Santo IV, a large 3D multi-client survey in the deep and ultra-deep waters of the Espirito Santo basin offshore Brazil.

CEO Jean-Georges Malcor said the new survey “reflects CGG’s commitment to invest in innovative products required to support the successful development of Brazil’s oil and gas resources."

The vessel Oceanic Champion is acquiring the survey which is expected to take seven months. The industry-supported survey will cover 10,300 km2 and be processed at CGG’s Rio de Janeiro Subsurface Imaging center. Fast-track products will be delivered six months after completion of the survey.

Last month CGG was awarded a contract by Petrobras to process the seismic data from a 3D survey covering a full-fold area of 2,180 km² in the deepwater Santos Basin; CGG described it as the largest node survey ever acquired and processed in the industry.
