Chariot starts drilling ops at Loukos licence onshore Morocco

Africa-focused Chariot has commenced drilling operations at the Loukos licence in onshore Morocco with the spud of the RZK-1 well on the Gaufrette prospect, it said on May 2.

The Gaufrette prospect represents a promising opportunity, with a main target boasting best estimate recoverable prospective resources of 10bn ft3. Chariot holds a 75% interest in the project, serving as the operator, while the Moroccan state-owned ONHYM retains a 25% stake. Additionally, Chariot retains the option to explore a deeper target identified through newly reprocessed 3D seismic data.

“We are very pleased to commence this onshore campaign, kicking off the first of our exciting drilling operations for Chariot this year. We also continue to work up the prospectivity across this acreage as we see significant upside both in the vicinity of our high graded well locations and beyond,” Duncan Wallace, technical director of Chariot, commented.

Chariot secured the agreement for the Loukos licence in August last year, covering an approximate area of 1,371 km2. The Loukos licence is positioned adjacent to Chariot’s Lixus and Rissana offshore licences, with the former housing the Anchois gas discovery and development project.
