Cheniere inks Bechtel to EPC for Corpus Christi
US LNG developer Cheniere Energy said March 7 it had signed Bechtel to a lump sum, turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for its Corpus Christi Stage III project in Texas and issued a limited notice to proceed (LNTP) so Bechtel can begin early engineering and site work.
Corpus Christi Stage III consists of up to seven midscale liquefaction trains, each with an expected capacity of 1.49mn mt/year. Capacity of the full facility, located adjacent to Cheniere’s existing Corpus Christi liquefaction and export terminal, is rated at just over 10mn mt/yr.

“The signing of this EPC contract and the issuance of LNTP mark important steps towards a final investment decision on the project, which we expect to occur this summer,” Cheniere CEO Jack Fusco said. “The Corpus Christi Stage III project commences as global LNG market fundamentals highlight the criticality of natural gas in the global energy mix.”
Cheniere has used Bechtel as prime contractor at both of its operating LNG export facilities, the 15mn mt/yr Corpus Christi facility in Texas and the 30mn mt/yr Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana. Corpus Christi Stage III is expected to begin operating in 2025.
