Chesapeake sets up RNG injection point in Florida

US gas company Chesapeake announced on February 6 it had set up a fuel injection point in Yulee, Florida, for receiving renewable natural gas (RNG), supporting increased residential and commercial demand in Nassau county.

The injection point can receive RNG, compressed natural gas (CNG) and LNG and pump it into the existing pipeline system. It is the first enhancement of a gas system in Florida for injecting alternative fuels into the grid.

"Our company is committed to providing energy in a way that's both sustainable and reliable," Chesapeake Utilities CEO Jeff Householder said. "With this enhancement to our infrastructure in Florida, we're continuing to expand our capabilities to meet the growing demand from consumers. The ability to incorporate alternative fuels into our energy delivery systems will not only benefit consumers, but also contribute to a lower-carbon future for our customers and our communities."

Other RNG investments made by Chesapeake include a transport project for the fuel at a landfill site in Ohio, and its acquisition of a poultry waste-to-biogas pilot facility in Maryland.
