China-Myanmar Pipeline Has Supplied 1.87 Bcm of Gas to China

The China-Myanmar natural gas pipeline has piped 1.87 billion cubic meters of gas to China as of July 27, CNPC said Monday.

As the Chinese energy firm celebrates first anniversary of the pipeline it said 60 billion cubic metres of gas has remained in Myanmar for domestic use.

The 2,520-km pipeline is expected to supply 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually to Myanmar and southwest China. After three years of construction, the gas pipeline (Myanmar section) was completed and underwent test run on May 30 last year.

CNPC has a 50.9 percent stake in the project. Two South Korean firms, Daewoo and Korean Gas Corporation, hold 25.04pc and 4.17pc respectively, while two Indian firms – Gas Authority of India Limited and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation – hold 4.17pc and 8.35pc respectively.
