China to Have 160,000 km of Oil, Gas Pipelines by end-2020

The total length of China's long-distance oil and gas pipelines is likely to exceed 160,000 kilometers by the end of 2020, Xinhua Finance Agency reported last month quoting industry experts.

Total gas storage capacity will reach 10.5 billion cubic meters and LNG receiving capacity will rise to 19 million tonne/year, experts said during the China International Pipeline Exhibition 2016 which took place in Langfang on April 12, 13 and 14.

Zhao Yujian, head of China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPP), said China's Belt and Road Initiative would bring new opportunities for international oil and gas pipeline development. He added that despite low energy process, there is still great potential for global oil and gas pipeline construction market.

China currently has 120,000 kilometers of oil and gas pipelines. Share of natural gas in country’s energy mix is only about 6 percent. Demand for natural gas and LNG will continue to expand in China as emphasis on clean energy grows which will lead to greater demand for gas related infrastructure, Zhao said.
