China's August Gas Imports Rise 70%
China imported 5.66mn metric tons of gas (LNG and pipeline equivalent) in August or 19.6bn m³, up almost 70% year on year, figures released by country’s statistics bureau September 8 showed.
This continues the trend for this year. However the actual amount imported in August was a tad lower than China's gas imports in July 2017, which increased 56% year-on-year to 5.76 mn mt.
For the January-August period, total gas imported stood at 42.46mn mt, up 25.5% year on year.
Northeast Asia (Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan) saw LNG imports increase by 14% year on year in 1H2017 according to recent data from shipbroker Clarksons Platou.
